Everyone is familiar with product placement in TV series and movies, but I think I just found an advertisement in a news article.
The offender is here:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20091116/bs_afp/chinaeconomyminingresources
It's a post about how China has cornered the market for rare minerals, which can be used for electronic products. The article explains these materials are used in electric cars, wind farms and iPods. The stock image for the piece of of an iPhone.
It is not an article about Apple or iPods. There are stock photographs available about Chinese mining. They do not mention Toyota Prius hybrids or GE Energy wind turbines, but they do mention iPods.
Its either a strange stylistic issue where they do not want to say MP3 player because they would have to explain it where as iPod is familiar enough, or we can all start looking forward to nice, positive sponsored reports about Apple products.
Allison Jackson for AFP wrote this, but they don't mention the editor.
