Although I've complained how news often are reported then forgotten if you don't count edits, many of the stories I've touched on have actually received attention later. Perhaps not because of my blogging, eh?
The drywalls manufactured in China, that made people sick and the houses uninhabitable when exposed to high humidity and heat returned to the headlines now that the first jury verdict came in. The verdict? 2.4 million dollars for damages, the cost of fixing the house, potential lost resale value etc. These damages are to be paid by the American distributor and associates, not the Chinese manufacturer.
Remember how I noted it'd be near impossible getting any damages from China? Yeah, that was commented upon: Previously a judge in U.S decided against the manufacturer who never showed up in court and who now theoretically owes money which no-one has a way of getting. The article used the term "limbo."
The last line of the linked article is pretty revealing of the problem's extent. The affected houses need the drywall replaced along with any effected wiring, fire alarm systems and gas pipes. Ouch.
